Doing painting allows me to move inwards to look for answers, allowing one not to be controlled by the external environment.
Chay Wai Chung, Singapore
Tell us a little about you.
My name CHAY Wai Chung, a normal Singaporean in my fifties
May we know a little about your family and cultural background?
What do you do for work and what do you enjoy about your job?
I work for a local precision engineering company as a Materials Manager where a few of us target to build an advance technological company to showcase abilities of a local enterprise.
What motivated you to learn art and when did your journey begin?
From young, I liked all traditional art forms (both western or eastern). Had learnt from artist before when I was in my younger days, however, due to my studies and work, I had not been doing any painting for more than 30 years. However, I very much like to recreate those photos I took before in the form of painting, thus I took the classes last year.
What did you find the most challenging when you first started your art journey?
What is your biggest challenge today?
Trying not to draw too much details on the painting… difficult to resist this..
How has learning art changed you as a person or the way you look at life?
I am able to relax more as when I draw, I feel distressed. Doing painting also allows me to move inwards to look for answers, allowing one not to be controlled by the external environment.
In your opinion, what is the role art plays in making the world a better place?
Since beginning of time, art has be a form of communication between us. Even some of the writings are developed from art (e.g. Chinese Jin language, Egyptian hieroglyphics, etc). In the modern days, art form has allowed many to focus on the beauty of our surroundings and forget about negativity in our lives. With more people take up any form of art, the less hatred we will experience on earth.
Which is one of your favourite personal creations and why? Please share a picture.
This is my very first acrylic painting, which means very much to me telling me that anyone can paint if one can put their heart into it
What advice would you give other artists to help them in their learning journey?
Just go for it!! Open up one’s mind and present what you want to share with others. No right or wrong, everyone is unique.
Why do you donate your artworks?
Anything else you would like to share?
I hope everyone can enjoy and create art to make this world better!!
