About the Artist
I’m Kelvin, Singaporean and I’m a Physics teacher in a secondary school.
How did you get started in creating art and how does it enrich your life?
I started doing art more seriously only in my adult years. I did learn some art as a young kid as enrichment, but coming to My Art Space was a serious step in building my art.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given about creating art?
“The question is not what you observe, but how you observe”. This stuck with me for a while when Chankerk shared this with me during one of the sessions. Coming to MAS is not just about painting another piece or learning how to paint better, but it’s refining my approach to situations and to life. My mental and emotional self is often challenged and engaged every week through every piece of artwork.
Please share on your learning experience and what you like about My Art Space
Coming to My Art Space is like a respite from the week’s work, to tune in to myself and to get into a bubble within myself, putting my emotions onto the canvas. I enjoy the surroundings, nestled within all the greenery, a getaway from the bustling city, yet still within the city. I’m thankful for the people on the MAS team too – everyone is warm and sincere. I have made friends here too, exchanging ideas and encouraging each other in our art-making.
What's your favourite artwork?
Oh gosh! I don’t have any actually, but I do like the Impressionistic approach in working with colours and concept.
What are you trying to communicate with your art?
I always want to communicate a depth of feelings and to make my art spontaneous and emotive. I hope that my audience will find a place of solace, encouragement and comfort through my art.
Tell us what plans you have for your art future?
I plan to develop my paradigm and skills further over the years and maybe if there is a chance, to be able to teach art too.
