MEMBER STORIES
I feel happy when I am painting. Making art once a week helps me channel that creative energy into various other tasks while I code as well.

About the Artist
I am originally from India and have been living in Singapore for the past decade. I am a Software Engineer by profession and love to create art both using code as well as oil paints!
How did you get started in creating art and how does it enrich your life?
My mother tells me I used to paint a lot as a kid. I have vivid memories of creating greeting cards for all anniversaries & birthdays! In 2014, I started painting under the tutelage of an amazing artist called Hannah Tan. Later I joined My Art Space (early 2016) and have been painting there regularly since. I feel happy when I am painting. Making art once a week helps me channel that creative energy into various other tasks while I code as well.
Please share on your learning experience and what you like about My Art Space
I am a big believer in scheduling creativity, going to the studio at My Art Space once every week to paint, not only helps me get better but also creates these series of paintings year on year, which I am very proud of. I have learnt a lot from the instructors at My Art Space. They provide just enough insights to help you get moving, and also give you the freedom to create & do your own thing. I also love the studio location, set amidst the Istana Park.
What's your favourite artwork?
My favourite artwork is my latest – Lanterns at Kasuga Shrine. I wanted to capture the laterns in a perspective and I think it is my best painting so far.
What are you trying to communicate with your art?
I mostly paint from photos I have taken previously. As a software engineer I tend to give more priority to the technicalities of the painting. Right now, Chankerk is urging me to ‘feel more and paint’. Think I will have a better answer to this question in a few months time! 🙂
Tell us what plans you have for your art future?
Would love to create more portraits and bigger landscapes. Also explore something intersecting code and art.
