“I celebrate diversity and I hope my work reflects the respect for humanity. I seek to capture moments of joy, sorrow, regret, happiness, vulnerability, strength, friendship and family.”
Born in Belgium, I spent my youth in a family of art lovers. In 1991, I left my home country to take on my journey in the world. As a cultural nomad, I have lived in several continents and many cities. With a background in Human Resources and intercultural coaching, I have a genuine interest and passion for people.
I am a self-thought artist; I have no formal art education. But I began drawing at a very young age, there was always paper and pencil at our house! I learned through observation and mainly perseverant practice. Whenever and wherever I had the opportunity, I took art classes. For example, in Chicago I joined the Dupage Art League. In Paris I was an habituée at the Academie Grande Chaumière for life drawing sessions and I also followed figurative painting at the Ateliers des Beaux-Arts.
In Singapore, where I currently live, I found my second home at My Art Space where I developed my own personal style. I work in various mediums, ranging from charcoal to pastel, acrylic and oil painting.
I enjoy painting the men and women and their stories, their lives, the children and their unfulfilled, hopeful destinies. Unknown people with their imagined stories. Recognizably, they live in cultures, sceneries and colors. I celebrate diversity and I hope my work reflects the respect for humanity. I seek to capture moments of joy, sorrow, regret, happiness, vulnerability, strength, friendship and family.
I am very excited to have a dual solo exhibition with my friend, Michelle Ma. Michelle and me were drawn to each other’s style of work. We both enjoy painting portraits.
My Art Space is a source of infectious stimulation to challenge myself and to experiment loosening with increased confidence. I have learned so much from Shan, Matt and Chankerk. I thank you for your continuous encouragement, allowing me to develop my own style. Art is very meaningful to me and the time and space I share with other artists brings me joy and happiness.
