Kelly Ser

About the Artist
Singapore-born artist Kelly Ser creates art that embodies free-spirited authenticity and originality. Her love for art and freedom of expression was sparked when she returned to Singapore after living in the UK for over half a decade. Kelly has always enjoyed creating art since a young age but never had a chance to pursue it outside of the classroom beyond art classes in school. Kelly is inspired by the raw emotions, experiences and episodes in her life. Behind every creation is a story. She believes that it is only when one finds inner peace and happiness that amazing art can be created and shared with the world. Her artworks are skilfully composed using oil and acrylic media, with the occasional use of the palette knife to sculpt and drizzle colours onto the canvas.
How did you get started in creating art and how does it enrich your life?
I never had a hobby before I started painting, and have never looked back since I started as painting provides a form of balance and tranquility to my life unlike any other activities that I’ve engaged in.
Please share on your learning experience and what you like about My Art Space
If not for My Art Space, I wouldn’t have had a chance to pick up the paintbrush again since I left school. I love the environment in My Art Space that allows me to freely express what I want using paint on a canvas, and the thoughtful and patient guidance from Shan, one of the best Teachers I’ve ever had.
What's your favourite artwork?
My favourite art pieces are from the latest collection that I’ve completed – the “Anomalous” series that was recently exhibited at the SMU Arts Festival. I love this series as it is inspired by the beauty of individualism and daring to be different.
Across the world, there are widely held stereotypes about almost anything and everything. Race. Gender. Culture. Sexuality. Religion. Through Anomalous, I hope to encourage alternative thinking and attitudes toward stereotyping and the celebration of beauty and courage in individualism.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given about creating art?
To be patient and grow to love your work as you slowly refine it over time.
Tell us what plans you have for your art future?
I have received public commissions since the beginning of my journey as an artist. My art works and commissioned projects are collected by many private collectors and corporations. In the near future, I hope My works can be featured in more print and online media and also look forward to more public exhibition opportunities!
